  • Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Cornelia Richter and I'm from Switzerland. I'm here at English in Chester on an 8-week General English course, and I'd like you to join me as I take you through a typical day in the life of an English in Chester student.
  • This is my bedroom in the homestay family's house. I start my day with breakfast.
  • Cornelia: "Good morning!"
Host family: "Good morning! Please take a seat."
    Cornelia: "Thank you."
  • Every morning my friend calls for me and we go to school together.
  • Tunde: "Hi! How are you?"
    Cornelia: "I'm fine."
    Tunde: "Are you ready?"
    Cornelia: "Yes, let's go!"
  • We walk to the bus stop which is just round the corner... and, after a 10-minute ride we are in the centre of Chester.
  • We walk through the streets of Chester and meet our friends on the way to school.
  • Chester is a very beautiful old city. There are lots of historical buildings and interesting shops where you can spend your money.
  • Finally, we pick up our classmates at the Cross which is at the heart of Chester and is the most popular meeting point for all the students.
  • From the Cross it's only a 5-minute walk to school which is in Stanley Place. People from all over the world come here to study English.
  • Teacher: "Hi, how are you? OK... see you later, bye!"
  • Alvero: "OK, see you later. I'm going to speak with Andy."
  • If students need any kind of help they can go to the office.
  • Alvero enquires about his return flight home
  • Tunde and Ayako ask about getting a student card
  • Students can use the computer room anytime and send emails in their own language. The use of the Internet is free.
  • Bell signals start of lessons
  • School starts at 9:30. Students are divided into small groups according to their English level. In each group there are students from different countries, which means that you have to use English to communicate.
  • All the teachers are experiences and the lessons cover all aspects of language - from grammar and vocabulary to listening and reading skills.
  • During the break, which starts at 11:00, students have the chance to relax and meet their friends either in the school garden or in the coffee room.
  • You can improve your pronunciation in the language lab. Now, listen and repeat...
  • 1:00 is lunch time. In the English way students go to a shop and buy sandwiches.
  • Town Crier welcomes visitors to Chester
  • You can walk through the city or just enjoy your lunch in one of Chester's parks.
  • One of the most popular places to spend your time is the River Dee. You can sit and relax, rent a boat, or enjoy the performance of one of the street artists.
  • Afternoon lessons start at 2:15. You can choose a lesson according to your particular interest from the many options available. Here we are studying "Focus on the News".
  • If you want to go on an excursion there's always someone to help.
  • After school we often have a coffee and a chat.
  • Back at home, time for homework. But... it's not all work! Time for fun, at the beach party!
  • See you at English in Chester!
