England's Northwest Tourism Website of the Year 2006

English in Chester, www.english-in-chester.co.uk, was the winner of the Website of the Year award at the recent high-profile England's Northwest Tourism Awards event organised by the North West Regional Development Agency.

Richard Day, the Principal of English in Chester, was especially pleased as the award was won in the face of stiff competition from some of the region's premier tourist attractions. English in Chester's students come from throughout the non English-speaking world and play an important part in the local economy. The website is the most effective way of reaching markets world wide and attracting new business.

It was also a good night for Nick Day, Richard's son and English in Chester's web designer. Nick, a recent graduate from Lancaster University and now a postgraduate student there, has been developing English in Chester's website for the past 5 years. His design was praised for its clarity and ease of navigation, both essential elements when marketing overseas.

The event was held at the newly opened, state-of-the-art Hilton Hotel in Manchester, which is located in Beetham Tower with fantastic views of the City. It was hosted by BBC North West Tonight presenters Dianne Oxberry and Gordon Burns. English in Chester's award was presented by Richard Frediani, Head of News at ITV Granada.

Richard and Nick are now looking forward to the next stage - the shortlisting for the Enjoy England National Awards for Excellence, which is organised by VisitBritain and will be held in April 2007. English in Chester hopes to be flying the flag for Chester, the region and the English language industry.
