21 November 2008: Cambridge Exam Practice - PET

Only one month to the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere. The Christmas lights are on in Chester and it looks very pretty, the shops are busy, in spite of the credit crunch and it is quite cold. Apparently we are going to have snow this week end so everyone is wearing woolly hats and scarves. If you don't like the cold weather the good news is that it is only six months till mid-summer.

Lots of people are doing the Cambridge exams next month so I thought we might have a quick look at some exercises for each of the main exams. Here's a PET exercise.

Exercise
Read the text below and choose the correct word for each space.
It is strange how we are influenced    the weather.
On a warm sunny day people smile    and seem to be in a much better mood.
it rains people speak less to each other and do not make eye contact.
Research has shown that    the winter, people feel less content with life and complain more about their jobs.
They    the doctors more frequently and are off work for longer as well as spending more money on alcohol and chocolate.
Once spring arrives we all seem to become less miserable and start to enjoy life   .

Good luck with your exams if you are doing one this December.
Love from everyone at English in Chester!
