21 May 2009: Expressions about Happiness and Sadness

Today are are looking at expressions we use to talk about happiness and sadness. For example, you might have thought it was the end of the world that Stay in Touch had not been updated for a few months, but you are now over the moon that it has returned!

Exercise 1
Which of the following expressions are used to describe being happy and in a good mood and which to describe when you are feeling a bit low and depressed? Put them in the right column.

Complete the sentences below choosing the correct phrase.

John was    when he heard that he had won a holiday for two in the competition.

The word today is longevity such as "The Chinese believe that eating healthily and taking exercise leads to longevity". It means the length of time that things last or live.
