17 August 2007: Word Building Part 1

What's happening at English in Chester?

Well, we are still quite busy, the pub tours are going strong and more than fifty people went to the barbeque last night. There was a very popular trip to see Manchester United being beaten by Inter Milan and everyone was pleased to see that there was a message for all the students from Chester up on the screen.

Andy finishes at the end of the month and is being replaced by Leander, who some of you will already have met as she has been in the office since early July. Stephanie, who has been working on the excursions programme this summer, returns to Switzerland this week but Angela will be with us until Christmas.

It is time to look at word building again. We'll start with some easy ones! There's lots to practise this week so we've split it into two lessons.

This is the first lesson - try the second lesson!

Exercise 1
Look at the following words and decide which ones have the prefix "dis" and which the prefix "un".
  appear

It really is quite    to walk out of the lesson without any explanation.
We were all very    both with the meal and the service in the new restaurant. I don't think we will go there again.
We tried to    him from giving up his job before he had found a new one but he insisted.
To begin with she was    to help but we managed to persuade her to give us a hand.
I waved goodbye until the train    from view.

This is the first lesson - try the second lesson!

Plenty of new words to remember this week!

Hope you are all well.
Best wishes from everyone at English in Chester
