Social Programmes

Excursions, activities and the social programme are important parts of the student experience in Chester. Language and culture are inextricably linked and our social programme adds a lot to the enjoyment of a stay with us. Students are able to see new places, share new experiences with other students and learn more about British life and culture.

The social life of the school is something that is enjoyed by all our students. The social programme is a major element of student social life and we encourage students to participate fully. We are also very happy to include events on the social programme that have been suggested by students.

On some courses (Vacation Courses for Teenagers, 50+ Courses and 30+ Courses) there is an inclusive social programme devised with the interests of these age groups in mind. For our other students we offer an optional, full and varied social programme. Each event is separately priced and students book and pay for the events that they are interested in. We always offer a range of events so that there is always something to match the interests of our students. In addition to the varied opportunities we also include differently-priced events. Sometimes we have local events which are usually cheaper and sometimes free of charge. Other events like football matches or theatre trips are more expensive. Occasionally we organise very popular weekends away to, for example, Scotland or London.

Our members of staff are involved in the social programme and enjoy being with the students. The students also enjoy being together and having an opportunity to practise their English with each other.

English in Chester is also very keen for students to get involved in activities with the local community. We encourage students to join dance classes, sports clubs and to take part in local events. This is the perfect way for students to meet local people and practise their English. We regularly provide students with local information and introduce them to opportunities available in Chester.

The school organised excursions during the week and at weekends. All of them were fantastic, like our trips to Scotland and North Wales. I would recommend English in Chester to everyone because it is really great. It is, in one word, marvellous!
