English House celebrates its first year on 9 Jan 2013. Our self catering accommodation, in a quiet residential area of Chester, welcomed its first student this time last year. Ugi, from Switzerland was joined by Milton from Cape Verde and since then we have welcomed students from all over the world. A Red Cross advisor from Sweden, a doctor from Italy, a primary school teacher from Toledo, Spain and Seinosuke Abe from Japan – our young at heart ‘oldest’ student. They have all enjoyed and benefited from the friendly community atmosphere at English House. We offer en suite study bedrooms, a comfortable lounge where students can chat and a well-equipped kitchen.

English in Chester was inspected by the British Council in June. We have recently received the report and the following publishable statement.
The British Council inspected and accredited English in Chester in June 2011. The Accreditation Scheme assesses the standards of management, resources and premises, teaching and welfare and accredits organisations which meet the overall standard in each area inspected (see www.britishcouncil.org/accreditation for details).
This private language school offers courses in general, academic and professional English for adults and vacation courses for under 18s.
Points of Excellence were noted in general management, premises, academic resources, self-access facilities, teachers’ qualifications, course design, learner training, accommodation and leisure programme.
The inspection report stated that the organisation met the standards of the Scheme.
"I am absolutely delighted with this statement, which is a reflection of the hard work put in by the team in Chester so ably led by Nigel, the Principal. When you run your own business it is immensely satisfying to see your hard work rewarded in this way. English in Chester has a record 9 points of excellence, an honour currently shared with only one other year-round school in the UK."
Students and staff celebrated the School's 35th anniversary in July with a mid-morning party in the patio garden.
