Mystery Plays were created across Europe from the 13th century as a means of celebrating the stories of the Old and New Testaments for the Feast of Corpus Christi. The production of the Plays, so important to the local community, was suppressed during the Reformation and the last recorded performance prior to the 20th century revival was in 1575.

Chester Racecourse, also known as the Roodee, the oldest racecourse still in use in England. Horse racing at Chester dates back to the early 16th century. Soak up the atmosphere at the Ladies & Gents Evening - gates open at 4:30pm  and the last race of the day is at 9:00pm.

The Open Course is located within the centre of the race track and is the ideal setting for a relaxed day at the races. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day at the gate for £12. See the racecourse website for more information and to book tickets. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult.
