Courses for Mature Students50+ Courses: Language Holidays for the Over Fifties

Chester is a perfect base for mature students on our 50+ Courses. It is a heritage city with unique charm. The buildings, history, traditions and position on the River Dee make Chester a leading tourist centre attracting many international visitors.

The 50+ Course enables you to practise your English, explore the region, meet new people and make new friends. The course includes language development and an inclusive social programme.

Language Development (15 hours per week)

The lessons enable you to:

  • improve your understanding of spoken English
  • increase your confidence in speaking English naturally
  • acquire a variety of formal and informal vocabulary

The Inclusive Social Programme

This is organised and supervised by our dedicated Social Organiser who accompanies you on all the trips. Each course includes three half-day events during the week and a full-day tour at the weekend. There is an optional weekly evening event at extra cost. The programme:

  • introduces you to the beautiful city of Chester and the surrounding area
  • enables you to visit many major tourist attractions
  • takes you to outstandingly beautiful parts of North Wales, the Lake District, the Peak District and to towns and famous cities like Liverpool and Manchester

Sample Social Programme (2-week course)

Monday Orientation and Tour of Chester
Your teachers will guide you round Chester city centre showing you all the important places that you might need to visit during your stay.
Tuesday Visit Chester Grosvenor Museum
This is a very good museum where you can learn all about Chester's history and see Roman artefacts found in the city.
Wednesday Quarry Bank Mill and the Apprentice House
Discover the story of the cotton mill workers in the Industrial Revolution and see how the children who worked in the mill used to live.
Thursday Evening Optional Evening activity: A traditional local pub visit
Chester is famous for its many traditional pubs - a visit is not complete without a visit to one of them!
Friday Free afternoon to spend in Chester
Saturday Free day to explore Chester or its surroundings
Sunday Full-day excursion to North Wales with BusyBus
This famous tour with BusyBus tour company takes you to the beautiful town of Conwy with its famous castle and Britain's smallest house. You will see the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno and be able to sample the local fresh fish and chips.

Tuesday Chester Cathedral Visit
Chester's impressive Cathedral is a must see while you are in Chester.
Wednesday Full-day excursion to Liverpool
A chance to see this rich cultural city with its famous maritime history and of course it was the home of the Beatles. Morning lessons lost will be made up on another afternooon.

Monday 7 May and Monday 27 August 2012 are public holidays when there will be an excursion/orientation programme for students on the 50+ Course.
